Garrick Brown joined Harren Equity as a Vice President in July 2008. His primary responsibilities include identifying and evaluating potential investments, executing transactions and portfolio monitoring. Prior to joining Harren, Garrick was a Director with Private Advisors, a Richmond, VA based alternative asset manager, where he was responsible for manager research, due diligence, selection and monitoring. Prior to that, Garrick gained significant private equity experience as a Vice President with a $1.4 billion private equity firm focused on family-owned businesses. During this time, Garrick was responsible for the evaluation and completion of new and add-on investments, working with management teams to implement strategic plans to drive equity value creation, monitoring portfolio company progress and communicating with the firm’s investors. During six years with his prior firm, Garrick completed thirteen acquisitions, divestitures and recapitalizations and served as a member of a team that ran one of the firm’s portfolio companies after the sudden death of its founder.  Garrick also worked closely with management teams on numerous operational improvement initiatives, including personnel identification and recruitment, facility consolidation, sales force optimization and expansion site selection.

Garrick began his career as an Analyst in the M&A group at PaineWebber, and has also operated a search fund focused on the small company market.  He graduated from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce with a concentration in Finance. Garrick is active with a number of local organizations, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Charlottesville Day School.

Garrick is a recovering athlete of ample desire but marginal talent and in his free time enjoys playing basketball, softball and tennis.
